So last weekend I attended the very first International Makeup Artists Trade Show in New York City and it was so much fun! I love makeup and beauty itself.  To meet so many talented

So I attended the very first IMATS (International Make-up Artists Trade Show) in New York City this past weekend.  I have to say that I loved it! I learned so much from many professional Make-up artists such as Eve Pearl, Valente Frazier and Linda Mason.  It was so much fun seeing all the different kind of makeup and techniques.  I was more amazed with the special effect makeup since I don’t do that kind of makeup.  There was actually a contest going but to me they were all good and scary!

There’s so much you can do with makeup that it’s amazing! It’s a beautiful form of art!

NEW YEAR! New YOU!

As a New Year resolution I said I was going to try new things! So the first thing I tried was this RED lipstick! I have never wore a red lipstick just because I didn’t think it looked good on me, but what I was missing was the right shade of red!

When wearing a red lipstick make sure that you pick the right shade of red according to your skin and hair color.

Here are some shades you can try:

Thanks to adorevintage.blogspot.com

For Warm Skin Tones a: Orangey, Warm, Brown based reds, are ideal.

For Cool Skin Tones: Pinkish reds, Berry Reds,  Brick Reds, Blue tones of Red, Plum tones.

All Skin Tones: True red.

Here are some other tips when applying red lipstick that are helpful…

  • Let the lips do the talking!- Go easy on the eye makeup and the blush, the red lipstick should be the focus on your makeup.
  • When applying red lipstick you want to make sure you use a neutral lip liner to fill in the lip to prevent the lipstick from running around the edges.

I hope you had enjoyed this post! and DARE to try a red lipstick (if you don’t have it try it before) JUST DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT THIS YEAR!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

5 Steps to Beautiful Healthy Skin!

Image Courtesy of iStock.comIt takes more than one step to achieve beautiful skin.  As part of a daily skin care regimen you need to 1) Cleanse 2) Exfoliate 3) Freshen 4) Moisture and 5) Protect.   The five steps work together to reinforce one another. They work with the skin to keep it looking healthy and vibrant!!

Cleanse:  Clean your skin with a cleanser suitable for your skin type. If you have Oily to Combination skin you would like a cleanser that controls your natural oils production. For Normal to Dry you would like to use a cleanser that doesn’t dry your skin out but that keeps a bit moist.

Exfoliate:  To deeply cleanse your skin and remove dead skin cells you need to exfoliate.  Removing dead skin cells helps skin renew its cells making skin look more vibrant.

Freshen: For your skin to feel fresh and soft you need to use a toner to conditioned the skin. Also toners help reduce the size of open pores.

Moisture: Humectants keeps the skin moist and help skin retain moisture.  As with cleanser you would like to get the right moisturizer for your skin type.  Also try getting a moisturizer that locks in moist for long periods of time and/or has some type of SPF to protect from UVA/UVB rays.

Protect: To protect skin from environmental damage and to even out skin tone you need a foundation (Yes! Foundation is part of skin care!).  It’s what gives skin a flawless look and is the base for color.  Try matching your skin color to a right foundation shade.

Tips to Avoid Dark Underarms

Have you ever felt conscious over dark underarms?

Dark armpits can be embarrassing especially when wearing sleeveless tops or dresses.  We all would want for our underarms to look flawless but first we need to know what causes our armpits to be dark.  There are a few of causes that are related to dark armpits:

Deodorant

Using deodorant with irritants and chemicals can be harsh on the skin causing it to darken over time.  If this is the cause of your dark underarms I would suggest for you to start using deodorant gentler and that doesn’t dry out the skin. Try natural deodorants which don’t have chemicals.  I personall

y use Dove is extremely gentle but strong enough for those people that perspire a lot.

Dry Skin

When the skin is damage by chemicals from deodorants it becomes dry.  The dead skin cells under the arms accumulate and making it look darker.  In order to lighten up the armpits you have to exfoliate and apply moisturizer daily.  Try a moisturizing deodorant.

Hair Removal

Inadequate hair removal can make underarms seem darker too.  While almost everyone shaves their underarms, shaving basically cuts the hair at the skin level leaving the hair roots beneath.  If you have dark hair and seeing dark armpits it might just be the hair roots.  To resolve this problem you might want to opt on waxing (yes, I know…it sounds painful, but that’s the cost of beauty!!). Waxing make the armpits appear lighter because it’s removing the entire hair.

In addition to working on the causes there are also at home remedies for whitening underarms. Try:

  • Cutting a fresh lemon slice and rub it on the skin under the arms. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash. Lemon is a natural bleaching agent.
  • Rub baking soda on armpits after taking a shower.  Baking soda is a great drying agent. This is really good for those who sweat a lot.
  • Make a paste of rose water and sandalwood powder and apply to armpits and let it dry.  Take a shower after it dries up completely.  Sandalwood has cooling properties.
  • Another at home remedy for dark underarms is to make a paste out of 1tsp of cucumber and lime juice, add a pinch or turmeric powder.  Complete the process same as with the sandalwood paste. Apply on armpits, wait 20 minutes and then wash off.

These pastes and remedies are amazing!! Let me know if you try any of them. My personal favorite is the sandalwood paste!

Scared to Show Off Your Legs?

So Summer is here and it’s time to show off the legs!!! But how to make them look great? Here are some tips that could help you:

* Exercise! Let’s be honest the best way to keep your legs in shape and looking flawless and perfectly healthy and sexy is by exercising but if you don’t exercise don’t worry there are more ways to disguise flaws…
* Exfoliate your legs.  After being hidden with jeans and tights over the winter skin losses luster so the best way to make your legs look healthier is by stimulating circulation and eliminating dead skin cells.
* Moisturize. Don’t forget to moisturize the entire legs! And if you are going out, on a date or any other special occasion don’t be afraid to use lotions with shimmer in them.  This will truly make your legs look luscious.
* Tanning. Adding color to your legs also helps in making them look healthy.  Get a self-tanning lotion, quickly self tan in your backyard, or just hit straight to the beach!
* Hosiery. Ingrown hair, razor bumps and scars aren’t the best accent to legs but a good way to cover them up is by wearing sheer tights or stockings to hide the flaws. (Beyonce uses hosiery a lot!!)
* Pay attention to your feet. Make sure you do a pedicure (you can do this yourself using an at-home pedicure kit). Remove any hard dead skin on the heels or soles of your feet and use a rich foot cream to massage it into your feet for a soft feel.
* Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!! No look will be complete without the right accessories.  For the legs the accessories are shoes.  To make your legs appear slimmer wear heels and show more skin! Pointy toes and straight straps elongate your legs so go for it if you are a short person.

Now go on and show off those legs!!!
